New Level 2 A Stroke Center
We are pleased to join Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama Trauma Communication Center, and Region 5 in announcing that Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown will officially move to a Level II-A mechanical thrombectomy capable stroke center as of 0800 EST Monday morning, November 4, 2024.
Please notify your teams of the upcoming change to expectations of routing changes for large vessel occlusion (EMSA > 4) patients. If you or your teams have any questions, concerns, or need additional training, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Region 2 recognizes the importance of one of our valued healthcare partners achieving this significant advancement of adding mechanical thrombectomy capability and obtaining Alabama Department of Public Health and Alabama Trauma Communication Center (TCC) Stroke Level II - A approval. This development is a pivotal step in improving acute stroke care for our communities.
In East Alabama, we are fortunate to work with exceptional partners dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes. The addition of this expanded mechanical thrombectomy care will significantly enhance patient care services in the southernmost areas of East Alabama, strengthening our region’s acute care network and offering timely, advanced treatment options for stroke patients.
Please ensure this information is widely disseminated to all personnel. This will help prepare teams to leverage this new capability and coordinate with TCC for the appropriate routing of patients to the Piedmont-Columbus Midtown facility.
Thank you for your commitment to continuously improving patient care in our region.
