The Governor has issued a proclamation that states that the license extension that was issued on March 26, 2020 for EMS personnel will expire on December 31, 2020 at midnight. Please advise and encourage anyone that you are aware of that has not renewed their license and falls into this category to please take care of this before the cutoff in order to avoid a late fee. As of 12:00am on January 1, 2021, anyone that has not renewed will be considered expired and no longer allowed to practice. Anyone found continuing to practice will be subject to disciplinary action for practicing without a license. A grace period will not be granted.
Anyone whose license expires on March 31, 2021 will still be expected to renew by this date as no extension will be granted for those individuals. The language from the proclamation is listed below.
II. Emergency-services licensure extension
In section II of my supplemental emergency proclamation issued on March 26, 2020, I extended the licensing deadline for emergency medical services personnel and provider services. This action was taken pursuant to a request from the Alabama Department of Public Health and to avoid any lapse in licensure status for Alabama's emergency medical services personnel and provider services during the State's COVID-19 response. The Alabama Department of Public Health now reports that the need for the extended deadline has passed and that most emergency medical services personnel and provider services have successfully renewed their state-issued licenses. Accordingly, the emergency services licensure extension found in section II of my March 26, 2020 proclamation will expire at 12:00 a.m. on January 1, 2021.
