Stroke Plan Alteration - Nov 1, 2021
Good afternoon,

On August 16, 2021, a temporary change was made in the stroke system plan due to the COVID-19 surge of patients which caused significant delays in transfers from Level III Stroke centers to a higher level of care.  The change allowed for patient with stroke symptoms to be taken directly to a Level II or Level I Stroke center, if time permitted, instead of being taken to the closest available Level III Stroke center.

With the reduction in COVID-19 surge and more hospital availability for transfers, the stroke plan alteration will be discontinued as of 0700 November 1, 2021. Beginning at that time, stroke system patients should be taken to the closest available stroke center as recommended by ATCC.

Thank you for your patience during the plan alteration. The Office of EMS is appreciative of your commitment to providing the best care for the citizens of Alabama.
